Can I tell my colleague to change perfume because it’s bad?

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — Today’s 98.3 TRY social dilemma comes from Cheryl, and it’s about working with someone who has a really strong flavor. Here is his email:

Hi Jaime. I have a real dilemma. I work quite closely with someone whose scent really bothers me. She might think it smells good, and maybe others do too, but I think it smells like garbage. It’s really strong. Do you think it would be good if I asked her to change her perfume? I don’t want to hurt her, but we have several projects that we are working on together and it really touches me. Should I ask him to change perfume or ask him to stop wearing perfume altogether? I hope you can help me. Thanks a lot!

~ Cheryl

Wow, that’s hard. I mean I wouldn’t want to ask someone to change their perfume, BUT I wouldn’t mind if someone asked me to change mine. I know a lot of people are sensitive to perfumes and colognes, so I think it’s normal for her to ask her colleague to change. I think she also has to live with what happens after that.

What do you think? Would you say something or leave him alone? Let’s help Cheryl and let me know on the TRY Facebook page.
