Do you turn off your AC as soon as the temperature hits 70 once?

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) — Today’s 98.3 TRY social dilemma is from Erika and it’s about air conditioning! Here is his email:

Hello Jaime. I need help. While summer may be unofficially over since the kids are back in school, it can still get quite hot here in the area, but my husband doesn’t seem to mind. For him, after we had a chilly night last week, he basically turned off the air conditioner and wouldn’t let us turn it back on, despite it hitting close to 85 yesterday. When I asked him why, he said it was because now there would be more cold days than hot days, so why waste money turning the air conditioning back on. I told him it was ridiculous and it didn’t take much to turn it on on hot days and off on cool days. But he won’t seem to move so my family and I are just suffocating. Am I wrong to say that it is unreasonable? Does someone else’s spouse turn off the AC on the first day they turn under 70? Thanks for the help.

~ Erika

Well, I’m with Erika on that. When it gets to a temperature where we can open the windows, we turn off the air conditioning and do that. But when we have a hot day of over 80, the AC kicks back in. Why be warm at home. I know it’s expensive, but some things are worth it.
