Is it OK to give up the tradition and holiday of Thanksgiving?

ALBANY, NY (NEWS10) – Today’s 98.3 TRY social dilemma has to do with family and Thanksgiving. Here is the mail :

Hi Jaime. Here is my dilemma and it is very real. There are always dramas when it comes to holidays with my family and my husband’s family. So this year, my husband and I decided to have a stress-free vacation. So, instead of deciding to go to either parent’s house, we decided to go on a beach vacation. We just broke the news to our parents, and while my husband’s parents understand, my family is incredibly upset about it. My mom calls me every day trying to make me feel guilty, and yesterday my sister told me how depressed my mom is about me not coming, calling me selfish. As I start to feel bad, I don’t change my vacation plans. Do you think I’m selfish? What would you do?

~Jenny

It might not be what you think I would say, but I think Jenny should go to the beach if that’s what she really wants to do. Not all families are the same. I LOVE being with my family on Thanksgiving. But not everyone feels that way, and I’m not in favor of making anyone feel guilty. Even if Jenny ended up going to Thanksgiving dinner, it wouldn’t be a good time for her because she would resent everyone. So, I’m saying she should go out there and take some time off that day to deal with everyone.

It’s my point of view. What do you think? Let me know on TRY’s Facebook page.
